of the L9 enjoyed an attendance from 8 different associations across the globe. As well as from Europe and North America, delegations from Japan, India, Brazil, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand travelled to Europe, a confirmation of the global status of the exhibition. Only the Chinese delegation could not attend at the last minute. At the meeting, an exchange took place about the associations’ ongoing joint engagement on sustainability, the streamlining of the World Label Awards as well as the establishment of a shared associations’ knowledge portal. The group also expressed interest in learning from each other’s experience in benchmarking programmes. It was agreed to meet again in Japan in spring 2012 to discuss progress on these points.
From 28 September – 1 October FINAT, as the proud partner of the show was present with a stand at Labelexpo Europe, Brussels. The 2011 edition was the largest show ever in the history of the exhibition, with nearly 30,000 m2 of stand space and about the same number of visitors over the four days of the show. Special features on the FINAT stand were the Recycling desk, the official launch of the Recycling portal on the FINAT website, and the preview of the completely revised edition of the FINAT Educational Handbook. Visitors had the opportunity to browse the new FINAT website and community and, if their companies were members, to register their profile on the FINAT community. As before, members had the opportunity to use the FINAT stand as a meeting point, have some refreshments and to reserve the complimentary meeting room for small meetings. A novelty was the Operators’ Day on the last day of the show.
october 2011
On 1 October, FINAT, VskE (D), UNFEA (F), and several other national label associations co-hosted the first of Operators’ Day at Labelexpo. As many label companies traditionally use the last (Satur-)day of the show to bring their technical staff and operators to the show, Operators’ Day aimed to give member companies the opportunity to guide their staff

through the highlights of the show in a structured way, combining educational and competition elements. Nearly 20 exhibiting member companies had submitted tasks and assignments for crews visiting their stands and had donated attractive prizes for the draw after the event. Although the event did not generate the expected turnout, the concept was appreciated by the participating label companies.
From 17-19 October, a small FINAT Delegation attended the TLMI conference in Scottsdale, Arizona USA. Under the title of Adaptation: Perspectives on Change & Creating New Value, the event focused on how companies could build customer loyalty, adapt to a constantly shifting market and explore future technologies and concepts in order for them to evolve and grow. As always, the event provided excellent networking opportunities and confirmed the long-lasting ties between our respective organisations.
