THE FINAT LOG
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE FINAT CALENDAR 2011-2012
Annually, the FINAT Congress completes another cycle of association activity. Over the past 12 months, volun- teers and professionals again worked hard to complete the calendar of events and agenda of items to be comple- ted and/or objectives to be achieved. This Log picks up where we left off in last year’s inaugural edition of the Yearbook.
MAY 2011
From 11-13 May the Marketing, Technical Committees, their respective sub-committees and the Board met in Amsterdam. It was also the first face-to-face meeting on the newly established Recycling Committee, of which an extensive report was published in FINAT’s Yearbook 2011.
National Associations’ Board
On 27 May the European National Associations’ Board met in Amsterdam. Main item of discussion was a proposal to establish independent indices as indication for raw material cost trends relevant to the self-adhesive label sector. Furthermore an English translation was commissioned of the German Best Practice Guide for Health and Safety in the self- adhesive and narrow-web sector. Participating associations also exchanged information about the status of release liner and matrix recycling solutions in their respective countries, on concerted lobbying actions towards the European Commission about the planned revision of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive, and other public affairs and sustainability matters.
JUNE 2011
From 8-11 June, the joint FINAT/GIPEA congress on Sicily took place. ‘Embrace change, enjoy success’, was the natural
successor of the 2010 guiding principle, ‘Creativity and innovation the way for tomorrow’. After all, to embrace creativity and innovation means, overall, to embrace change – a prequisite for future success. The full report and pictures can be viewed on our website.
On 9 June, on the occasion of the FINAT General Assembly, the official launch of the new FINAT Website and Community took place. The launch of the ‘FINAT 2.0’ has, indeed, created a virtual counterpart of the association’s slogan ‘linking the label community’; and the passing of a continuous web of ribbon around the room represented a symbolic moment of celebration of this major initiative.
JULY 2011
On 7 July, the newly-appointed Congress Programme Committee 2012 held its first meeting to assess the outcome of the Sicily congress and define the first outlines for the 2012 Event in Athens.
SEPTEMBER 2011
On 27 September, prior to Labelexpo Europe, the global label associations united in the informal platform called the L9, met in Brussels at the invitation of FINAT. The fifth meeting
