On 14 - 15 October, despite massive strikes in France, FINAT Managing Director Jules Lejeune took part in the Pilot Assessment Workshop of the Global Packaging Project held in Paris. Purpose of the project set up by the Consumer Goods Forum (first brought to FINAT’s attention at the Technical seminar in Barcelona) is to establish a common global language on sustainabi- lity metrics and definitions.
From 18 - 20 October, a FINAT Deleg- ation attended the TLMI Annual Conference in Florida. Connections were established and strengthened between the mutual associations’ sustainability and young management forums.

On 1 November, FINAT was notified about the European Commission’s DG ENV’s plans to establish a Europe-wide classification of borderline cases in the context of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive. According to initial signals this might also involve the classification of release papers as packaging materials. First steps were taken to establish a FINAT lobby with professional external support. This marked the start of (bi-)weekly conference calls.
On 9 - 10 November, participants in the FINAT Label Printers Forum were present in Nuremberg at the occasion of Brau Beviale, the beer brewers’ exhibition. Aim of the event was to share knowledge and establish a dialogue between label converters and customers or media
representatives about the key drivers and requirements for self-adhesive labels in the beer market. Participants received special access conditions for the show to meet customers. In attendance: 30 member companies.
On 23 November, FINAT took part in a multi client press conference organized by our PR agency Duomedia at the occasion of Emballage in Paris. On behalf of FINAT, beer label specialist Mark Ruijgrok (Avery Dennison) and Mana- ging Director Jules Lejeune shared the findings of the Label Printer Forum work- shop held two weeks earlier in Nurem- berg. In attendance: 15 journalists from the food and beverage packaging and labelling trade press.

On 2 December, FINAT and our web communications partner Remotion met to finalise phase 1 of the programming stage of the new Web 2.0. FINAT website and community, and to commence phase two, adding further community features.

On 6 - 7 December, prior to Labelexpo India in New Delhi (8-10 December) the FINAT Young Managers Club held a one day workshop in collaboration with their Indian counterparts of LMAI. The second day of the event was dedicated to local company visits. The event and dinner was kindly sponsored by Tarsus and Harveer Sahni of Weldon Celloplast kindly hosted an informal dinner for his European guests. In attendance: 40 participants.
On 8 December, FINAT visited the European Commission’s DG’s Environm- ent and Enterprise in Brussels to explain or industry’s position concerning the classification of release papers as NOT packaging in the context of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive.
On 13 December, FINAT hosted the 3rd meeting of the European National Associations Board in Frankfurt.
On 18 December, after 46 years, FINAT released the final printed edition of FINAT Labelling News. It was announced that as of 2011, the quarterly printed edition would be replaced by a bi-weekly newsletter and (in the course of the year) by the new FINAT website and community portal, supplemented by a printed Yearbook and pocket publication on the occasion Labelexpo.
