FINAT President, Managing Director and Past-President deliberate on FINAT’s future vision
The Executive Board brainstorms on a strategy plan
8. Increasing staff and external capacity to monitor and represent the label industry’s public interest. A number of areas of common interest have been defined which will be addressed more proactively and where FINAT should also play a leading role in its interaction with other label associations worldwide. These include LCA guidelines and sustainability metrics, packaging and packaging waste, food safety, trade customs harmonisation, technical specifications for labels (ISO), REACH, and solvents best available techniques (IPPC Directive).
9. A reactivation of FINAT’s Member Drive supported by a new, updated member benefits brochure in line with FINAT’s newly defined value proposition for the different target groups. The Membership Subcommittee is now well embedded in FINAT’s Marketing Committee. Planning is not only to introduce a special introductory offer for combined national-FINAT membership, but also to align with YMC events in Eastern Europe to attract the attention of prospective members without a national structure. FINAT will also address upstream suppliers in adjacent technology areas.
10. Finally, following the reorganisation of the permanent committees into subcommittees during recent years, the FINAT Board is now restructuring itself by enlarging its Executive Board with the board liaisons of the Marketing and Technical Committees for better alignment between strategy and operation. On the main Board, each Board member will have responsibility for a subset of FINAT’s strategy (including volunteer recruitment for continuity). A new, updated FINAT Board and Committee Manual as well as a volunteer portal with relevant documents and tools will help volunteers in FINAT to understand their roles and responsibilities in turning the association strategy into reality. See also organisation chart on page 87 with FINAT’s new structure.
IN CONCLUSION
FINAT members and prospective members are welcome to embark on this journey and maximise their benefit of FINAT membership by actively taking part in and/or enjoying the many programmes and initiatives which will come on stream in the coming years.
But remember: the more engagement you put in as a member, the higher the benefit will be!

7. (Encouraging the) development of harmonised industry guidelines for the measurement of sustainability and compliance with food safety standards. Via the Technical Committee’s Sustainability & Recycling and the Regulatory Affairs subcommittees and the National Associations Board, the Board will commit resources to promote the consolidation of existing tools and guidelines to stimulate uniformity across countries and companies.
