EDUCATION
LABEL ACADEMY RAMPS
UP FOR THE FUTURE
It is a little over six months since the initial launch of the Label Academy, a global label industry education and training resource, which took place with much acclaim during the Labelexpo Americas exhibition in Chicago last September. At that time, there were just two educational handbook modules available in paperback format, as well as two supporting titles, including the fully updated Encyclopedia of Label Technology. Since then, work has progressed well, Mike Fairley reports.

Following this initial launch the Label Academy team has been working hard to write further handbooks, continue the development of the Academy website, and write and test on-line examinations for all the currently available handbook titles – which are now also available in Kindle format.
To date, the following handbook and supporting titles cover the subjects and topics listed below:
These titles are all selling well, particularly the Digital book and the updated Encyclopedia, with handbook sales now in excess of a hundred every month (over 700 since Labelexpo last year). Such has been the interest by companies looking to enhance their employee education, that some companies now purchase all the current titles in the series, either in hardback or electronic formats. Others have asked for multiple copies for their employees.
With the Label Academy website now including a synopsis of each title and what students can expect to learn, as well as providing entry to examinations, the number of registrations on the site is already close to 800 and the very first candidates have been completing one or more examinations. Certification can now be obtained by those successfully attaining the required examination pass mark.
PLANNING THE EUROPEAN LAUNCH
With Labelexpo Europe just five months away, the next phase of promoting and marketing the Label Academy will shortly commence, leading up to a major European launch programme in Brussels. Scheduled for the coming months and at the show the Label Academy team are planning:
• Additional pages on the website to set-out what the Academy can do for both employers and employees;
• Promoting the value of global label industry qualifications; • Sending-out regular e-mails to promote available titles and
examination subjects;
• Preparing a press announcement for all the European and
International journals that will attend the Labelexpo show;
• A press conference announcement;
• Providing Label Academy sponsors and label trade associations
with copies of available titles and special access to examinations so that they can be trialled and advised to clients or members;
• Preparing a booklet about the Label Academy: how to use it, the benefits of well-trained employees, integrating into induction, appraisal, performance, etc. Copies of the booklet to be supplied to label associations for distribution to members.
