LET’S TALK TECHNOLOGY
FINAT ANNOUNCES 2015 NEW TECHNOLOGY WEBINAR SERIES
Last year, FINAT launched a series of webinars designed to present the latest independent label industry
knowledge and focusing on topics relevant to the future of the industry. Purpose of the webinars is to offer a
convenient tool at members’ fingertips to brief them on management, technology and sustainability develop-
ments that may impact their business in the near future. The FINAT Board’s ‘New Converting Technology’ taskforce is driving the webinar programme, and works closely with FINAT’s Young Managers Club that also regularly organizes business webinars specifically for young managers in the label industry with the next ones scheduled for June and October.
The 2015 Technology Webinar Series follows a FINAT webinar end of last year on the future of printed electronics. ‘Proactive knowledge sharing and supporting our members, as well as the industry in general on technologies, trends and challenges is an ongoing focus for FINAT, as innovation continues apace. The webinar last year proved so successful that we felt members would benefit from more,’ comments Kurt Walker, FINAT President. Below follows a summary of webinars held or planned.
NOTE: Members can download the recordings of these webinars via the members area of the FINAT website.
Wednesday 26 November 2014: “Printed Electronics for the label printer”, by Chris Jones, Novalia Printed Electronics (UK) Packaging has been a prime driver in the development of
printed electronics, from RFID to QR codes and other digitally ‘readable’ data. The printing expertise, specialist materials, and conductive inks required to reliably create these ‘intelligent’ functions have long been a specialty of the label production.
Proactive participation in educating and supporting its member companies in newly-developing territories such as the printed electronics arena is an ongoing focus for FINAT, as innovation continues apace.
The webinar on printed electronics provided a valuable update on existing applications and potential opportunities for printers in the narrow-web flexo market – not just in packaging or labels.
Thursday, 7 May: “Sensory Labels and Packaging” by Hannah Hall, Research Manager at Blue Yonder Research
The fast moving consumer goods market has become incredibly competitive. With the additional pressure from retailers to support promotions whilst keeping retail prices low, a maximum impact has to be achieved on limited budgets. Within these constraints, brands have to connect with the consumer in many ways, not only visually but also through other senses.
