FINAT CONNECTS GLOBAL AND NATIONAL LABEL ASSOCIATIONS
REFINING THE GLOBAL LABEL INDUSTRY
VOLUNTEERS NETWORK
The 2013 edition of the FINAT Yearbook contained an interview with members of the National Associations’ Board network. The interview described how the nine national label associations in Europe are working together in a positive spirit of exchange under the auspices of FINAT, in pursuit of enhanced knowledge sharing at a variety of levels. At the same time, FINAT in 2013 also provided the center of rotation for the global label associa- tions, united in the informal network called ‘The L9’. Let’s take stock of what is going on in both platforms. What has been achieved and what is planned?

EUROPE: POOLING RESOURCES, EXCHANGING BEST PRACTICES, ALIGNING PROGRAMMES
The European National Associations Board (NAB) met early 2014 in Istanbul on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Turkish label association ESD. As at previous meetings, an important part of the agenda was dedicated to mutual updates of the national associations programmes, achievements and work in progress. At occasions like this it always turns out that several associations are facing the same challenges. Often they are working on similar issues and projects, and the NAB meetings offer them the opportunity to compare notes, learn from each other’s successes and avoid mistakes which have already been made. In other cases, double work can be avoided because programmes under consideration or being planned by
one association may have already been executed in other associations, and programme templates can be exchanged in return for favours elsewhere.
In principle, planning of national association meetings is the NAB member associations’ own concern, but since there may be overlaps in audiences, speakers and sponsors, the need for better alignment of association calendars (both among national associations and between national associations and FINAT) has been detected and it has been decided to share association planning calendars one year in advance.
The NAB also provides a vehicle to represent the European label associations united interests towards European and global stakeholders, legislators, media and other target groups.
